Als afstammelingen van Afrikaanse gemeenschappen die eeuwen geleden naar Noord-Afrika werden gebracht, hebben de Gnawa een uniek muzikaal erfgoed weten te behouden, gekenmerkt door hypnotiserende ritmes, bezielde zang en het metalen gerinkel van krakebs (ijzeren castagnetten). In Khamlia ontvangt de bekendste groep \u2014 <strong>Les Pigeons du Sable<\/strong> \u2014 reizigers van over de hele wereld om deze voorouderlijke kunstvorm te delen in een intieme en warm gastvrije omgeving.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">De oorsprong van de Gnawa ligt in Sub-Saharaans Afrika, met name in het huidige Mali, Soedan en Senegal. Veel van hun voorouders werden tussen de 16e en 19e eeuw als tot slaaf gemaakte mensen naar Noord-Afrika gebracht. Ondanks de ontberingen die zij hebben doorstaan, wisten zij hun spirituele overtuigingen en muzikale tradities te behouden en te transformeren tot een krachtig cultureel erfgoed. Door elementen van het soefistische islam te vermengen met Afrikaanse animistische gebruiken, ontwikkelden de Gnawa een unieke rituele muziek die wordt gebruikt tijdens ceremonies die bekendstaan als lilas, met als doel genezing, zuivering en spirituele trance te bevorderen. Tegenwoordig worden de Gnawa erkend als hoeders van een van de meest diepgaande en spiritueel rijke muzikale tradities van Marokko. Als erkenning van het culturele belang werd Gnawa-muziek door UNESCO opgenomen op de lijst van Immaterieel Cultureel Erfgoed van de Mensheid.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><em>Als uw reisroute een overnachting in de woestijn van Merzouga omvat, grijp dan de kans om het dorp Khamlia te bezoeken en u onder te dompelen in de geschiedenis en cultuur van de Gnawa-bevolking.
